Topic: "I am just trying to protect you!" Trauma-Responsive Addiction intervention combining Internal Family Systems, 12-Step, and Psychodrama; Adena Bank Lees, LCSW, LISAC, BCETS, CP (*CEs, ITI)
Presenter:
Description:
Clients often fight with or attempt to “kill”/ “get rid of” the addict part of themselves because of the pain and negative consequences this part creates. Active curiosity and validation of the addict’s protective purpose is a new paradigm for healing and sobriety. Being a “firefighter” of intense/overwhelming emotions, sensations, and memories is the addict’s main goal and it is determined to succeed. Fostering a relationship with these parts is essential in reigniting spontaneity, opening the realm of possibilities for healthier coping strategies.
Come join us as we use action-exploration of this paradigm, providing you with tools you can immediately apply in your practice!
Learning Objectives:
1. Apply at least one psychodramatic technique to accelerate clients' warm-up to sobriety.
2. Describe one way IFS and Psychodrama compliment each other for addiction treatment.
